Our host at the North Gregory Pub (who doubled as  refueller) turned out to be the 2 IC of the local Flying Club  (Pelican Waterhole F. C. ) and he put on a great dinner for us at the pub and we were entertained by the other members of the club.We all ended up joining the club and were duly issued with club hats and membership cards.  The next morning we were required to muster at the club rooms (well,   club awning next to the hanger!) and we were initiated into the club.

This entailed having to flap our wings like a pelican and  stand around looking generally silly. A great time ws had by all, SMB shirts were presented and we completed our departure with a circuit over the township.
Between Winton and Longreach we managed to find some hills to break the monotony although generally the terrain remained flat and dry.
The QANTAS Founders museum had recently undergound a multi million dollar refurbishment and extension. The Big building is Stage Two and houses the majority of the display.

Stage One is in the original QANTAS hanger and has a full scale model of their first  purpose built civil airliner  (DH 60).
Also has memorabilia from the days when QANTAS built their own aircraft under licence.

Stage Two is an impressive display of real aircraft, scale models, audio-visual-computers displays and diaramas.
No visit to Longreach would be complete without a trip to the Stockman's Hall of Fame.
