Day 1.
Friday 7th May (Cairns - Hughenden)
As planned a few hardy souls departed Cairns on the afternoon of Friday 7th and overnighted in Hughenden. Ray, John, Martin and Mike tracked via Werrington Station. John & Ray landed at the homestead and refuelled. Martin & Mike had planned to put down at the Werrington strip and wait for the refuelling but the presence of a well-known outback service aircraft parked smack in the middle of the runway made landing risky so they carried on to Hughenden. Good thing landing wasn't an emergency!
Garrick tracked via Townsville to pick up Ian and then went direct to Winton.
The rest of the crew left Cairns the next day so Day 1 for some was Friday while for others Day 1 was Saturday 8th.
