Sweer's Island   August 2002
  The Photographic Evidence!.

On The Island!
Obviously, when it comes to fishing trips the fishing photos have to come out first.  The fishing wasn't as hot as we'd hoped, although there were a reasonable number caught.  Acko got the gong for the biggest (and incidently the shortest time spent fishing as well!)   Kerry got one of the smallest.
Full marks have to go to the owners of Sweers Is. Resort for the set up.  The fish cleaning station on the beach is really well thought out.  Everything needed to clean, fillet, pack in plastic, mark for later identifying and freezing is in the one central place. On the day you leave just collect the frozen tray packed fillets, put them in an esky and fly away.

Kerry and "Honest Nev" check out the supplied gear.
After the fishing comes the ceremonial telling of lies - made easier by the imbibing of copious quantities of  refreshing beverage.  This is made even easier by the scenery. It doesn't get ANY better than this!
The sunsets are spectacular. Its impossible not to take a good photo.
And of course a helicopter enthusiast's website would be incomplete without at least one rotary wing photo.  So here you get TWO!

On the second day Nev and I decided to forgo the bait drowning session and walk the island. The whole circuit can be done in half a day. We just did the southern half of the island.
It's a bird watchers idea of heaven. Lots of feathered critters to excite the ornithologist !
Not far from the resort is a stone and a plaque commemorating the early explorers, in particular Matthew Flinders who landed here during his around Australia voyage.  Just behind and to the right is a spindly white tree which was planted to replace the original tree used by Flinders as survey mark.  Due to the harsh conditions it hasn't grown much in the six years since planting.

Looking back toward the resort from the western most tip of the island.
The resort is a series of buildings.  Fairly basic by city standards but very salubrious by fishing camp standards. Accommodation is in four domitory style cottages. Three, four or six beds plus a bedside shelf for gear. Separate ablutions block and a main dining, bar and kitchen building.  The bar is self serve and add to your own bar tab as you go. Honesty system applies and must work, they haven't changed the rules yet!  A limited amount of stuff is for sale - hats, sunscreen, souvenirs and lures.
