This trip involved an anticlockwise tour round Queensland from home base in Cairns to Winton, Longreach, Charleville, Darling Downs, Toowoomba, Oakey, Bundaberg, Hamilton Island and home again.
As it turned out bad weather was against us and we had to bypass Hamilton Island. In fact the weather was so marginal that half the group elected not to carry on past Rockhampton but to go inland to avoid the rain and winds.

The group who went inland had good weather till nearer Cairns. The group who went coastal struck very poor weather and managed to get into Mackay. Saturday's weather was a bit better though they struck very bad weather north of Townsville. They beat the inland group home by about four hours but their weather was poorer.

Next year we'll stay well away from the coast in the early part part of the year. That's twice we have been caught in bad east coast weather!
