Day Six -  Alice Springs to Ayers Rock to Alice Springs

The plan for the day was an early morning run down to Ayers Rock then back to Alice.  After lunch we'd have a further look round town.

Because of the distance John hitched a ride with Martin and Lance in the Cessna 172.  Garrick has seen the Rock a few times before so Nev also hitched a ride with Kerry.  So - No helicopters on the Alice-Rock-Alice leg.

The weather was fine clear and a bit windy and surprizingly cold at Ayers Rock.

Lake Amadeus - One of many salt lake just before Ayers Rock.
Juliet Echo Romeo - Inbound "The Rock"
The Olgas.  I hadn't realised they were so close to Ayers Rock.  The concensus was that the Olgas were far more spectacular than Ayers Rock.

On the ground - Ayers Rock Airport
Back to Alice.

The site of the original Alice Springs Airport with hangars now tuned into a museum.
The Kookaburra Memorial.  Next to the Connellan Museum (Old Alice Springs Airport)  Memorial to two early pilots who flaunted all the rules of good airmanship to try to find some other missing airmen.....and paid the ultimate price.  This is the original wreckage found by Dick Smith.
The Todd River downtown Alice Springs - (Across the road from our motel whose back entrance opened onto the main street mall.
