Day One(b)  - Cape York Peninsula

Saturday was really "Day 1" and the Musgrave mob had a leisurely breakfast and departure, while those who left from Cairns on the Saturday had a very early departure.

First stop, Lockhart River and the rendezvous with the rest of the group. We arrived after the Cairns contingent, but we all waited for Bob and Peter who had to come from Atherton, after a  delayed departure.

In the end we departed before they arrived because we had a fixed  booking for lunch and a tour of Horn Island early afternoon.  They managed to get into Horn Island about an hour after the rest of us but still in time for the crab lunch. Crabs were flown in specially for us from one of the northern islands, organized by Kerry and his wife.
Against the temptation  we manged to save some for Peter and Bob.

After the lunch we piled into a bus and were taken on a very informative tour of the old World War II sites on the island by local historian, author and curator of the museum,  Vanessa SeeKee.

After the tour a few of us decided that an attempt to land a big one off the jetty was in order so we trundled down to the harbour.

The complete lack of locals was a bad sign, as was the lack of bait! The rule on Horn Island is "First catch your bait!" Fortunately Nifty Nev lead the way with enticing sardines to commit suicide on the bait lines.  Garrick, Nev and Shep proved to be the only lucky punters.  Plenty of bait caught but no "real" fish.
