Thargomindah
"The Places We Haven't Been" Tour
                                                        2005
Thargomindah Airport  - For some inexplicable reason refuelling seemed to take a very long time. But eventually we got fuelled up and headed off to town.  Thargomindah is pretty small but there is still a bit to see.  Thargo is the site of a still functional (though only for the tourists)  artesian hydro- electric generator.  The water gushing up through the pipe drives a couple of turbines which can produce enough electicity to run a few light bulbs.  The water has that characteristic smell of Hydrogen Sulphide (Rotten Egg Gas) and as well as spawning lots of comments led to another poem.  Click here for the poem.
In addition to the hydroelectric station there is an old hospital which has been turned into a recycled timber factory.  Some of the old hospital artifacts are still to be seen in the old morgue.  There are also a large number of old buildings worth looking at.  But of course the day ends with a few quiet ales in he pub!
